Sri Lanka elected as Vice-Chair of the Governing Council of the Common Fund for Commodities

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Rekha Gunasekera, was elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the Governing Council of the Common Fund for Commodities for the years 2024 & 2025, at the 36th Annual Meeting of the Governing Council held on 12 December 2024.

At the Annual Meeting, Ambassador Gunasekera delivered the National Statement of Sri Lanka and recognized the efforts undertaken by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) to improve the livelihoods of developing countries that rely on commodities. She emphasized the crucial role of CFC in fostering resilience and mitigating global challenges such as poverty, climate change and natural disasters. The Ambassador further stated that Sri Lanka looks forward to further enhanced cooperation with the CFC to boost, particularly, the SME sector development.

In addition to the National Statement, Ambassador Gunasekera delivered the regional statement in her capacity as the Vice Chairperson representing the Asia Pacific Regional Group of the Common Fund for Commodities.

The Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) is comprised of 101 member states, including Sri Lanka, and is located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It is an autonomous intergovernmental financial institution established within the framework of the United Nations
