Sri Lanka shines at the Embassy Festival 2026 in The Hague
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Netherlands, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), successfully participated in the Embassy Festival 2026 held on 5 September 2026 at Lange Voorhout in The Hague.
The Embassy Festival is a premier multicultural event in the Netherlands, and the 2026 edition featured representatives from nearly 50 countries and their Embassies, showcasing their unique cultures, traditional cuisines, music, arts, and customs, and attracting more than 70,000 Dutch and international visitors.
The Embassy organized a dedicated Sri Lanka Pavilion, which served as a vibrant platform to showcase the island nation as a premier travel destination. The pavilion highlighted Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, authentic cuisine, beverages, and exquisite traditional handicrafts. Throughout the day, visitors expressed keen interest in discovering Sri Lanka and learning more about its unique tourism offerings, and the Sri Lanka stall was one of the most favoured and sought after stalls at the event.
To inspire future travel, a large commercial screen displayed a vibrant selection of videos showcasing Sri Lanka’s scenic landscapes, iconic landmarks, and memorable travel experiences. This immersive visual presentation offered visitors a compelling introduction to the island’s natural beauty and diversity. Comprehensive tourism promotional materials, including brochures, destination guides, and maps, were also distributed to provide visitors with valuable travel information.
Authentic Sri Lankan cuisine proved to be a major attraction at the pavilion. Visitors thoroughly enjoyed traditional cuisine such as yellow rice and curry, kottu, egg hoppers, string hoppers served with coconut chutney, lentil vadai, cutlets, and roti served with lunu miris, as well as the sweet delicacies lawariya and naran kawum. There was also a big demand for Ceylon tea and Faluda.
In addition to the culinary experience, the pavilion proudly exhibited a selection of Sri Lankan handicrafts, including traditional wooden masks, jewellery, tote bags, leather items, and unique products made from coconut shells and wood.
As part of the interactive festival experience, the Sri Lanka Pavilion also participated in the Activity Passport initiative of the Embassy Festival. This interactive cultural journey encouraged visitors to explore different traditions, participate in traditional Sri Lanka games, and answer general questions about Sri Lanka to test their knowledge.
