The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Netherlands hosted the Sri Lanka–Netherlands Tech Nexus webinar on 30 June 2025, focusing on expanding cooperation between Sri Lanka and The Netherlands in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector. The hybrid event, held at the Embassy premises and online, brought together key public and private sector actors to examine areas of mutual interest, with attention to business development, digital innovation, and knowledge exchange.
In her opening remarks Rekha Gunasekera, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Netherlands stated that The Netherlands is an important bilateral partner for Sri Lanka. Currently, The Netherlands is Sri Lanka’s sixth largest export destination and the seventh largest investment partner. She noted the Embassy’s intention to facilitate structured engagement between Sri Lankan and Dutch ICT stakeholders, aligned with Sri Lanka’s National ICT Strategy.
The webinar featured presentations from the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), highlighting national digital priorities and introducing Sri Lankan start-ups seeking international partnerships. Representatives from the Sri Lanka Association for Software Services Companies (SLASSCOM) provided a private sector perspective on collaboration opportunities with the Dutch ICT ecosystem.
Dutch regional development agencies, including InnovationQuarter and The Hague & Partners, presented on the Netherlands’ tech landscape, regulatory frameworks, and support available for international businesses. They also outlined areas where Sri Lankan firms could explore cooperation, particularly in cybersecurity, digital innovation, and venture funding.
The programme also included insights from two Sri Lankan ICT professionals based in the Netherlands, who spoke on start-up ecosystems, pitching strategies, and approaches for scaling into the Dutch market. 34 Sri Lankan companies joined the webinar.
ICT is the 4th largest export earner for Sri Lanka and currently stands at US $ 2 billion. It is the aim of the Government of Sri Lanka to increase this to US $ 5 billion by 2030.
